The VICC Patient Handbook


Each newly diagnosed cancer patient treated at VICC receives an educational notebook tailored to inform patients about cancer care, resources and support.

The Patient and Family Resource Center

The Patient and Family Resource Center provides cancer patients and their families with materials such as pamphlets, books, and videos on all types of cancers, cancer treatments and support resources. All of the resources are offered free of charge and there is a computer that may be used to conduct online research and view educational videos.  A staff member is available to answer questions and provide personalized information and education about cancer resources. Additionally, the resource center offers programs on cancer-related topics for patients, families and caregivers throughout the year.

Also available each quarter is the Wellness Program Catalog to help you navigate the most recent resources and events available to support and educate you and your family on this journey.

Another resources includes the Patient Guide to Chemotherapy, an introduction to chemotherapy video. This 30 minute video can help answer your questions about what to expect during your cancer treatments, including:

  • Side effects and how to manage them

  • Diet and Nutrition

  • Healthy living

  • Tips from other patients

This video is available online at VanderbiltChemoVideo.com. It can also be borrowed or viewed at the Patient and Family Resource Center, or you may wish to ask your nurse or provider to recieve a copy of the video.

"Look Good ... Feel Better" is a series of free classes for women undergoing chemotherapy and offered by trained, volunteer cosmetologists, teaching you how to cope with skin changes and hair loss.

If you or a member of your family are interested in any of the services available, please contact the Patient and Family Resource Center at 615-322-9799 or visit the resource center Monday through Friday, 7:30 am – 5:00 pm. The center is located on the first floor of The Vanderbilt Clinic (TVC), Room 1700AB, located in the main cancer clinic waiting room.
