Profile

Dr. Webster is an expert in surgical robotics and image guided interventions. He has invented many different kinds of surgical robots and leads a large NIH funded research program aimed at developing them and clinically translating them. In particular he has pioneered steerable needles and needle size surgical instruments, among many other surgical robot technologies. He is president of two startup companies, Virtuoso Surgical, Inc. and EndoTheia, Inc. which are engaged in commercial and clinical translation of his work. He is a founding member of the Vanderbilt Institute for Surgery and Engineering and serves on its steering committee. He is also a Charter Member of the National Institutes of Health Image Guided Interventions and Surgery Study Section.
