Skin Cancers
Overview
Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer and is primarily caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. The most frequently diagnosed types of skin cancer are squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and melanoma.
Melanoma is often considered the most serious type of skin cancer. Although it is less common than basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas, it is more likely to invade nearby tissue and spread to other parts of the body.
Early diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer lead to the best outcomes for patients. At Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, our multidisciplinary team provides comprehensive care for patients with skin cancer, combining advanced diagnostics, personalized treatment approaches, and access to specialized expertise and clinical trials when appropriate.
