Join us for the inaugural Vanderbilt Thoracic Oncology Debate, featuring two nationally recognized leaders in thoracic oncology, Dr. Ankit Bharat (Northwestern University) and Dr. Gerard Silvestri (Medical University of South Carolina), as they address one of the most important questions in lung cancer prevention: Should lung cancer screening be offered universally based on age, rather than restricted to individuals meeting current risk-based eligibility criteria?
Dr. Bharat will argue in favor of universal age-based screening, while Dr. Silvestri will defend a more targeted approach. This lively, evidence-based debate will explore the potential benefits, limitations, and implications of expanding lung cancer screening, including early detection, screening disparities, overdiagnosis, and healthcare resource utilization.
The program will feature opening arguments, rebuttals, and an interactive audience discussion. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear contrasting perspectives from two leading experts and consider how evolving evidence may shape the future of lung cancer screening. We invite clinicians, researchers, trainees, and all those interested in lung cancer prevention and early detection to join us for this engaging discussion.
