Vanderbilt University School of Engineering

Many members of the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center are faculty with research focused in Vanderbilt University School of Engineering’s Biomedical Engineering, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering departments. Our deep engineering expertise empowers researchers across disciplines to innovate and collaborate more effectively.

Center for Computational Systems Biology (CCSB)

Spanning Vanderbilt University, Vanderbilt Health, and the Vanderbilt College of Connected Computing, CCSB leverages team science and computational biology to yield clinically actionable insight. CCSB members reverse-engineer biological systems into synthetic environments to investigate how disease disrupts system-level states and to identify the earliest biomarkers of pathology. Recent projects have focused on using data from spatial technology to analyze tissue physiology, damage, and cancer to understand the structure of disease. Other projects focus on developing algorithms and using AI tools to integrate machine learning into the processes of precision medicine.

Medical-image Analysis and Statistical Interpretation (MASI) Lab

The MASI laboratory focuses on large-scale, cross-sectional, and longitudinal medical imaging data. Using magnetic resonance imaging, muti-parametric studies, computed tomography, and shape modeling, the team develops systems and tools to help researchers unlock the full potential of clinical imaging. The laboratory specializes in medical image processing and big data analysis to create algorithms that guide medical science and patient decision-making.

Vanderbilt Institute for Surgery and Engineering (VISE)

VISE is an innovation engine leading to the conception, development, realization, and evaluation of interventional processes, devices, and systems for surgery. Interdisciplinary teams of engineers and practitioners interact and exchange ideas. Vanderbilt’s shared spaces break down boundaries between these groups, creating an environment where collaboration is the norm.
